Elliott Skeen has over forty years experience in clogging. He started his clogging career with the Davidson County Cloghoppers. Elliott and his partner Tammy Swaringen went on to form a team called, Dixie Cloggers, at the age of eleven. Elliott not only had a passion for clogging but also found a passion in music. He had learned how to play the bass, fiddle, spoons, and a little bit of mandolin. During this time period he danced on various teams through his high school years into college. He was well known in the clogging world at this time teaching at numerous clogging workshops and judging competitions. Elliott went on to form his own team called the Hickory Flat Hoedowners in 1985. This team was a force to be reckoned with holding National Traditional titles in Southern Appalachian, Running Set Hoedown, Country Hoedown, 4 Couple Precision and Smooth Mountain Dance from 1985 - 2000. Elliott has been on the ACHF All American team, NCHC All Star team, ACHF International clogging team and NCHC All Star Director. He is known for his unique patter calls and is the National Champion Caller for ACHF from 2013-2015 & 2017. Elliott has won numerous awards for his unique style of clogging along with numerous Grand Champion Traditional Male Awards. Elliott was honored as an inductee into America’s Clogging Hall of Fame in October of 2011. Elliott also serves on the Rules and Rep Committee for ACHF since 2014. 

Cheryl Skeen has forty years experience in clogging. She began her clogging career taking lessons at Camp Kirkwood in Wallace, NC with Nancy Aycock Rivenbark as her instructor and later came to dance with the Cripple Creek Cloggers in Burgaw, NC under the direction of Buck Aycock and Nancy Aycock Rivenbark. Cheryl began teaching clogging at the age of 12 as an assistant with Miss Nancy at the Cripple Creek Dance studio. She assisted with beginning clogging, traditional hoedowns, line and precision dancing. At the age of 16, Cheryl began teaching clogging at the YMCA in Wilmington and in Harrold’s NC. She went on to form her own clogging team, The Carolina Classy Cloggers in 1990 which was short lived when she met Elliott. He told her, “he had to marry the competition because her team was getting to good”. Cheryl is a member of the ACHF All American team, NCHC All Star Team and The ACHF International team. She was honored with the Miriam Dawson Old Time Traditional Dancer award in 1991 at the NCHC Dance off in Fontana, NC. She has won numerous solo awards, Grand Champion Traditional Female Awards and Grand Champion Flatfoot Awards. Cheryl is the 2015 ACHF National Flatfoot Champion. She is also Chairman to the America’s Clogging Hall of Fame Committee which honors people who give their lives to teaching and preserving the traditional dance form. Cheryl has been part of the committee since 2014. She continues to teach classes down on the farm. She has been active at her school where she works teaching Southern Appalachian clogging and square dance through the enrichment and dance program. Cheryl also has been involved with teaching for the Davidson County Parks and Recreation summer camp. In 2017 she was inducted into America’s Clogging Hall of Fame. 

Elliott and Cheryl met in Charlotte, NC in 1991 at a Judge’s and Directors training. The two were married in June of 1992. They clog together with their daughter Megan who also enjoys clogging.  

Elliott and Cheryl are certified ACHF judges since 2010. Their passion is to preserve the Southern Appalachian dance forms and pass their knowledge down to the younger generations.
